MidTown Hub is a local group that is trying to ensure that the land being sold at Davisville PS is kept in the public realm and used for a “community hub”.
The TDSB plans to rebuild Davisville PS by 2020 and in order to do so they have to sell almost an acre of land. Rather than have the land be sold for condos our group is working with Josh Matlow, the city counsellor for ward 22 to have a "community hub" built.
The hub would potentially include a community centre, theatre, gym, multipurpose rooms, community kitchen, programming for seniors and children and hopefully a pool.
Ward 22 has the highest number of tenants and is the only ward in the city without its own community centre. The surrounding community centres are oversubscribed and it's very hard to get into programming. Although Moore Park is not located in Ward 22 we could benefit greatly from having a community hub located so close to our community.
We’re also asking interested locals to show their support for the project by filling out a very quick 10 question survey that is located on our site MidtownHub.ca.
Another way to show the city and the TDSB that we have the support of the community is to help solicit letters of support from the surrounding businesses and community leaders (we have one from the Salvation Army Retirement and nursing home and are working on Greenwood School and other organizations in the area such as SPRINT, the BIAs and the ratepayers associations in the area).
